FEFO
Fefo, also called Fe or Fefoli, is a group of rhythms that originated from songs women would sing, accompanied by large half-gourds with strings, beads, and cowries attached. Fe means “calabash” in the Malinke language, and Foli means music. The Fefo rhythm comes from the village of Lalikoro and then spread.
Traditionally, Fefo is danced by a group of young girls aged from 7 to 10 years. They are trained by a griotte, dancer or former dancer and perform various movements with the calabash.
Like the Mendiani, they form a group that represents the village and perform when an important person visits the village.
