DYAGBA (B)

Here is another version commonly heard in the Hamana region. It is close to the Malian version known as Madan.

In Guinea, Dyagba is traditionally danced by women. It is especially performed at the end of Ramadan and during the Tabaski festival in Upper Guinea. Nowadays, it can also be heard at other popular celebrations and is danced by men as well.

Dyagba is generally considered to belong to the Mamaya family of rhythms. However, it could also be classified among the Dya rhythms, as Dyagba means “Big Dya,” implying a Dya that is open to everyone rather than one performed specifically before a wedding.

Dyagbe is another commonly used name for Dyagba rhythms.
